Lexis Preparatory School Welcomes Counselor with Unique Experience

Scottsdale, AZ, Dec. 7, 2010 – Alison Mozias of Phoenix has joined Lexis Preparatory School in Scottsdale to serve as school counselor and outreach coordinator. Mozias brings an eclectic mix of experience to her new position, including having delivered a spatial reasoning research program to 1st and 2nd graders in Harlem (New York) for Columbia University to communication skills training for investment bankers on Wall Street.

As school counselor at Lexis Prep, a college-prep private school for children in grades K-8 living with ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety and other learning differences, Mozias will work with students one-on-one and in small groups on conflict resolution, social skills, and behavioral issues and set attainable goals for enhancing social and emotional development. She will also communicate with parents, teachers, staff and other professionals to help students achieve their potential both academically and socially.

In her role as outreach coordinator, Mozias will work closely with area professionals to develop relationships and seek out potential speakers for Open Houses, as well as visit local professionals to make presentations focusing on the school’s unique programs and serve as a resource for prospective parents and interested area professionals.

“We are thrilled to have someone as multi-talented as Alison join our Lexis team,” said Bonnie Dougherty, Lexis’ head of school. “She is a compassionate and knowledgeable counselor who I know will have a very positive impact on our students, teachers, and families. She is also a very resourceful professional who will be an excellent conduit of information to our community and network of professional referrals.”

Prior to joining Lexis Prep, Mozias spent the past two years working as an educational consultant for Syndactics, Inc., an educational support services company located in Phoenix. At Syndactics, she worked with small groups of K-4 children focusing on language acquisition and literacy development skills in primarily Spanish-speaking communities.

Mozias began her career in education co-leading a 5th grade classroom in New York City’s Anderson Program, a gifted program. Upon her acceptance at Columbia University’s Teachers College as a graduate student, Mozias began working at the highly esteemed Hollingsworth Center as the assistant to the director of the preschool.

After completing an MA and EdM in psychological counseling at Teachers College, Mozias turned a coveted internship at JPMorgan Chase’s Career Services Center (JPMC), where she honed her counseling skills and trained with a highly regarded group of counselors and leaders in business, into a decade-long relationship with the corporation. In her years with JPMC, she worked one-on-one with employees on Wall Street as well as with clients all over the United States.
