Bonnie Dougherty
Head of School

Bonnie took over as Head of Lexis Prep School in February, 2010, following a thirty-one year career in the Montgomery County Public School System (MCPS) in Rockville, Maryland. During her career in MCPS, Bonnie was an elementary school principal for 15 years and a program coordinator for the Division of Speech and Language Programs where she oversaw the provision of speech and language services in 60 elementary and secondary schools. In 1978, she also implemented the first speech and language resource program in MCPS at the secondary level where she provided therapeutic and diagnostic services to students in 9th through 12th grades.  Prior to working in the public schools, Bonnie taught at two private schools for students with learning disabilities in McLean, Virginia, and in Potomac, Maryland.  During Bonnie’s career, she championed a team-oriented and collaborative environment where all students could learn at high levels given equal opportunities and appropriate accommodations. While in MCPS, Bonnie was also the recipient of the 2007 ESOL Principal of the Year Award in MCPS and received Honors of the Division of Speech and Language Programs in 1994. Bonnie holds a bachelors degree from Ithaca College in New York and a masters degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in Speech Pathology and Audiology.  She has also completed postgraduate coursework in administration, supervision, leadership training, curriculum development, counseling, and educational law.

When not at Lexis, Bonnie enjoys reading, taking photos, exercising, learning how to cohabitate with the Arizona wildlife and watching her husband fly fish on the Snake River in Idaho.
